Choose the Bra Best Suited for You

Wearing a bra that fits properly and offers appropriate support is important for women of all sizes.

You should first ascertain your actual bra size. Some specialty stores and area lingerie shops that provide a generous bra selection, offer fitting services to their customers. It is important to measure over the shoulders, around the band, and to obtain the correct cup size, measure across the fullest part of the breasts.

You will have a good selection of quality sports bras, in a variety of styles, in different brands, when you shop at a store specializing in sports clothing, which is important when you play a high-impact sport. Stores that have a sports concentration, will offer more of a variety than department or regular lingerie stores. Ensuring the most support, with minimal movement of the breasts is necessary when you will be participating in running or other high-impact sports. When you are trying on the athletic bra at the store, running in place will tell you if the bra provides adequate support for your breasts. If too much movement is allowed, it is likely that an alternative style is needed.

It’s important to try on a variety of different bra styles from a number of manufacturers. Not every woman needs the same thing from a bra, and it is easier to meet your specific needs by trying on many different styles to see which works best for you. For example, it’s important that women with larger breasts (D cup or larger) should pick encapsulation athletic bras, which will help provide maximum support. Compression bras are generally best for women who wear A to C cup sizes, as they give the best support for this range of cup sizes.

Be sure to view the label to find out what fabric is used in the particular design of your athletic bra. You will want to look for styles that provide an excellent moisture-wicking fabric, which will draw perspiration away from the body. It’s also important that the fabric provide shape and support.

You want to be sure you can inhale deeply whilst wearing a sports bra. Tight fitting bras may offer great support. However they will simply make it harder to breath whilst working out or playing sports.

Pay careful attention to the label’s washing instructions when cleaning your sports bra. When an athletic bra no longer has any elasticity, it will not provide adequate breast support any longer, and needs to be replaced.
