Choosing The Right Dishwasher

New home sales have risen sharply in the last financial quarter due to first time home buyers and the generous tax credit that was offered by the federal government. These new home buyers have now entered into the retail consumer market as they set out to furnish their new homes. Nobody likes to have a new home with old and dingy appliances, so typically these folks are more willing to invest in some new furnishings to outfit their new homes. This may include buying an oven and range, refrigerator, or even a dishwasher. Here are seven things you should look into when shopping for your next dishwasher.

1. Does the dishwasher clean dishes? Although it seems like a no-brainer, it should always be a legitimate question to ask. You would think that with the vast differences in cheap units vs. Expensive ones, that some may clean better than others, and there may actually be some truth to this. What you should inspect is the water holes. The dishwasher cleans by spraying the hot water on the dishes from water spouts. Look to see how many holes there are, which direction they spray, and where they are located. Make sure that these will be adequate to achieve the level of dish cleanliness that you desire.

2. What type of arrangement features does it have? Although most modern dishwashers come with a standard set of features, they are not necessarily the same. For instance, the size of the utensil baskets, the positioning of the prongs on the loading trays that may allow for irregular shaped items, or even fold-able prong sets.

3. What is the dishwasher capacity? Most dishwashers come in a standard size, which in turn means that the actual capacity is fairly similar amongst all makes and models. However it is possible to get larger sizes, especially if you have customized a larger space for one in your kitchen. Other alternatives include dual-drawer washers that have two separate washing compartments

4. What is the dampening like? The dampening refers to how well the sound is insulated on the washing unit. The tub, where all of the washing takes place is typically surrounded by layers of insulation that can come from a variety of different materials. Depending on these materials and the material that the tub is made out of, the amount of sound the machine makes during operation can vary.

5. What about energy efficiency? Everyone wants to live green these days, not to mention be able to save money on their utilities bills. Efficient machines should have sensors that detect how many dishes are being cleaned and automatically reduce the amount of water used. Other units have the option to reduce the wash times, thereby reducing the amount of electricity used during a typical wash.

6. Is there a time delay option? Time delay options can come in handy when you want to run your dishwasher at a particular time of day, perhaps when nobody is home. Of course, if you already buying a super quiet machine this may not be that important to you.

7. Does it come with a built in garbage disposal? Some, but not all modern dishwashers are equipped with a large particle removal system. Sometimes the drainage system can become clogged if there isn’t an internal disposal.

As you can see there are many different things to consider when purchasing a new dishwasher. As long you can find the one that matches your own specifications, you shouldn’t be afraid to purchase. As long as it is in your price range, of course.
