Shopping For The Dining Room Of Your Dreams

Searching for new dining room furniture can be overwhelming. Between the wide variety in styles available, and the broad price range, a shopper without a design plan can quickly find themselves confused.

The first two factors to consider are space, and style. You’ll want to consider the dimensions of the room, to make sure that you choose furniture that will fit comfortably and be usable. Choosing a table that is so large that you cannot fully pull out the chairs would be unfortunate! Also, your dining room is a separate space but is part of your home, and as such should reflect your overall design scheme. Narrow your choices to styles that will fit the furniture and style of other rooms in the home.

Generally dining room sets will include table and chairs, and will have an optional matching storage item such as baker’s rack, side board, or hutch. While not strictly necessary, these extra items do add a great deal of storage space in the dining area. If room dimensions and budget allow, consider adding the optional unit to your dcor.

Armoires may also be used in the dining room, as may accent tables or small side tables. Although these are not necessarily produced as dining room furniture, many varieties of armoires and side tables can provide an attractive and useful accent to the room.

The traditional concept of formal dining room is not the only way to go with dining furniture. There are many styles that allow for a casual feel to a dining room, including some counter-height sets that provide a more casual look.

In a modern home, go for a bold statement. Sharp, clean lines and darker colors work best. Consider espresso-colored wood for chairs, and very modern lines. Ornate, architectural chairs and sophisticated tables with sculptural elements can be used to bring visual interest in an upscale condominium or apartment. For an added touch of sophistication and glamour, consider leather dining chairs.

Make sure that you can maintain the beauty of your dining set. If your set will see regular use, because you and your family eat in the dining room frequently, choose chairs that are easy to clean. Any upholstery or fabric on chairs should be washable and stain resistant.

If your dining room tends to be a gathering place for friends and family to linger, comfort is of highest priority. Consider how long people will likely sit at the table when selecting your set. Chairs should be comfortable enough that you and your guests feel free to stay and converse long after the meal has ended, if that is your custom.
