If you are taking your kids on a vacation to New York, remember that although you may love the museums, they will quickly tire of them. You need to find some hands on activities for them to do.
Before you go to New York, get online and check out how many hands on and creative activities there really are; you will be amazed. The following are just a few which you can all do together as a family and have a whole heap of fun.
Kids love anything arty, be it coloring, painting or anything where they can create something themselves. The Painted Pot store has tapped into this and allows you to pick a bit of pottery and then paint and decorate it yourself. This is really good fun all the family.
If your child has the aspirations to be a future ‘American Idol’ or suchlike, a rather expensive but very worthwhile excursion is a day at the Triple Z Music Recording Workshop. They will get the chance to perform in a real recording studio and take home a CD of their efforts.
All younger kids love fairy tales, and to make them feel as if they are actually in one, take them to a branch of the famous Metropolitan museum which is known as Cloisters. Everything here is a re-creation of medieval Europe, and the whole family will love it.
The Met itself is one of the most child friendly museums you can visit. It isn’t designed as a purely kids museum however, so there is plenty for the adults to enjoy too.
Long gone are the days of austere toy shops with a look but don’t touch policy. These days they organize games and activities to keep children and adults, entertained for hours. FAO Schwartz is one of these stores, as is the Toys R Us mega-store which is situated in Times Square.
Seeing all the sights of New York City will definitely be a fun and exciting experience for kids but it can also be very tiring. A nice way to end the day is a healthy meal coupled with a good night’s rest. This will get them ready for another fun day in the morning.
